Early morning exercise is something I’ve personally discovered to become a big life-changer. There are early morning exercise benefits but simply working out in the morning itself is a benefit in your life and time management-wise.

 

Of course, there are a lot of people out there who may not be able to fit this into their schedule. These may be people who work a night job. However, in such cases doing a workout right before work can be helpful in cases of time management. But this is a whole different conversation.

 

In the following paragraphs we will be looking at why you should consider a morning exercise routine in your life, even though it may be hard at first to get used to it.

 

Time Management

I briefly explained previously that morning exercise is excellent for your life in terms of time management. By waking up early in the morning, several hours before work, and going to the gym or on a run or a different physical activity that you may be currently training in, you are able to get it out of the way for the rest of the day.

 

If after work you have free time, you now have the opportunity to do something else either productive or recreational. But don’t let this get in the way of going to bed on time. If you’re working out in the morning you have to make sure that you’re getting an adequate amount of sleep.

 

If, for example, you have a second job and after you get out of job #1 you need to go to job #2 you now have gotten the exercise out of the way in the morning and you no longer have to stress about going to the gym after work late at night.

 

Working out in the morning is also very beneficial for those who work in physical labor. Once you’re out of work in the evening, you might be too exhausted to go to the gym. Waking up in the morning to do so will not only allow for you to get the exercise in on a fresh start but also to simply fit it in your day. You might’ve otherwise not even exercised if you hadn’t done it before work.

Metabolism Boost

Exercising at high intensities and simply exercising for beginners causes something in our bodies called excess post-exercise oxygen consumption (or EPOC). EPOC, in simple terms, is the amount of oxygen that your body needs to return to its normal metabolic rate; because of EPOC your body continues to burn more calories even after your exercise than it would at a resting state.

 

When you exercise in the morning, you allow your body to combine the amount of calories being burned from EPOC with the amount of calories you would be burning normally throughout the day.

 

This effect lasts for hours after an exercise and allows for you to maximize the effects of your training session. Thus, even while you’re eating you will be burning off calories and fat throughout the day; more than you would if you were to not exercise in the morning.

Free From Distractions

 

When you exercise in the morning, you’re waking up before everyone else. That means no morning distractions. No texts to check, no phone calls, no favors, no to-do lists that you need to get done at this very moment.

 

There are very few distractions early in the morning that will take you away from what’s at hand: exercise. Mornings are also a time for a general sense of peace.

 

Though it may be tough at the beginning, if you exercise in the morning you’ll notice that you will also be going in to work with a lot more energy than if you had woken up just in time to make it to work. Your body will be a lot more awake and alert.

General Sleep Improvement

If you’re the type of person that struggles at falling asleep and/or waking up in the morning, morning exercise may be extremely beneficial for you.

 

When you exercise, your body temperature is elevated and maintains itself elevated throughout the day. When your body temperature is elevated, it also increases your level of energy throughout the day. After several hours, and also when it’s time for bed, your temperature is lowered and allows for a better sleep quality.

 

According to the National Sleep Foundation (NSF), a morning workout can reset your circadian rhythm or “body clock” and improve the quality of your sleep.

 

When the quality of your sleep improves, it becomes easier to wake up the next morning on time. Now, you won’t only have plenty of time throughout the day, but the energy to get through it; and once it’s time for bed your body will be ready to sleep.

Sets You For The Rest Of The Day

Exercising in the morning allows you to have a sense of accomplishment throughout the day, more leisure time, no guilt for missing the gym and just overall a better mental state.

 

When you live your day in a better mental state and start it off on the right foot, it sets the pace for the incentive feed your body with the right nutrients (AKA healthy food).

 

By accustoming your body to exercise in the morning, it releases endorphins in your brain which would normally be released as a result of exercising. Endorphins are hormones produced which cause the feeling of being happy. Having these endorphins released early in the morning means you rid yourself of the morning grumpiness feeling.

 

Keep in mind that at the beginning it WILL be a major challenge to wake up early in the morning to exercise if you aren’t already a morning bird; but by forcing yourself past this and forming it into a habit you’ll see how much easier your days become. That is, if you also get yourself used to going to bed early enough to get enough sleep.

 

Sleep is important, but you will only be able to get things done when you’re awake, so wake up early in the morning and get exercise and early errands out of the way before your day officially begins!

 

These are only a small handful of the benefits that come with morning exercise. Keep them in mind next time you wake up early and remember that though it may be tough, it will all be worth it at the end of the day.

    I practiced early in the morning and I can say that I find it harder in the morning than I do at other times of the day because I practiced in the evening and got better results, especially the days before I had a short nap.
    But for those who want to exercise, I think they have to pay attention to the amount of time they have during the day in order to plan properly.

    You gave plenty of reasons for anyone of us to wake up early in the morning and do our workouts.

    The sad part is that it is easy to say, but hard to accomplish 🙂

    Anyway, I believe that if someone truly wants to do something in their lives, nothing will stop them from taking action towards their goals. Not even the sweetest sleep!

    Hi, Misael,

    I’ve read before of the benefits of working out in the morning. As a matter of fact, I tried it for some time. With my new job it’s harder to do it though. I would have to get up at 5 and I’m definitely not a morning person. I work out in the evening and the gym is always packed. I hate it, but I’d rather do this than wake up really early. It is what it is.
